Hugh Logan has been skiing for 68 years and climbing since he was 15. His enthusiasm and love of our mountain lands endures, actively rockclimbing, alpine climbing, and ski touring. For him, climbing is about adventure and risk (“putting hazard to the touch”). It also involves a responsibility to look after our wild places. He has authored guidebooks and two books on our countries’ great peaks. In addition, he is a past President of the New Zealand Alpine Club. Hugh is the Patron of the Canterbury Mountaineering Club.
In another life, Hugh was head of the New Zealand Antarctic Programme, the Department of Conservation, and the Ministry For The Environment. He is currently a board member of the Outdoor Access Commission.
