Auckland-based writer and consultant Hazel Phillips has worked for a variety of media, from the National Business Review to CLEO magazine. She is the author of three books including Sell! Tall tales from the legends of New Zealand advertising, Wild Westie, a biography of Sir Bob Harvey; and her recently published work Solo: Backcountry adventuring in Aotearoa New Zealand. At the festival, she’ll be talking about this latest title, which is about her three-year adventure spent living in mountain huts and tramping alone for days at a time, all the while holding down a full-time job.
As well as multi-day tramping and mountaineering, and when she has spare time, Hazel also enjoys skiing and ski touring, scuba diving, motorbiking, and sitting on the couch with a good book when it all gets too much.
