Kim Logan, (72, Ngati Kahungunu) is a renowned mountaineer, gemmologist, viticulturist and film location manager, now working with Foley Wines as a regional foreman.
Born in the Hawke’s Bay, he was sent to Auckland for his early primary schooling, before working his way around the north of the South Island and eventually into the mountains.
Kim has taken part in numerous expeditions to the Himalayas the Karakoram’s, and across Aotearoa, often alongside legendary climbers who are no longer with us, including his close friends Bruce Grant, Bill Denz and Calum Hudson.
His long-time friend and climbing partner, Peter Hillary, has written the foreword to Kim’s book, Kim: A Journey Between Two Worlds.
Yet Kim’s life has not always been an uphill climb. His father, a decorated commander in the 28th Māori Battalion, returned from war a damaged man unable to cope.
Named after Rudyard Kipling’s adventurous hero, Kim found his own way forward climbing out of a difficult childhood and into a life defined by courage, resilience, and discovery.
