(60 mins) Thomas Julienne, France, NZ Premiere.
This movie takes you to the heart of the story of a young biologist driven by a burning desire: to understand if livestock farming and large predators can coexist. The journey takes place in Patagonia, a territory heavily exploited for livestock but still inhabited by pumas, thus creating a conflict with the farmers.
Similar to the situation with wolves in Europe, pumas sometimes attack livestock animals to feed themselves. By meeting with farmers and scientists, Thomas documented possible solutions to promote harmonious coexistence. These encounters were rich in lessons. Although the situation is far from being perfect, many promising projects are underway, such as the use of guard dogs, dissuasive lights, and mules, all aimed at keeping pumas away without killing them. Furthermore, the certification of farmers and the development of tourism help financially compensate for losses caused by pumas, while contributing to a more peaceful relationship with wildlife.
To better understand this situation, Thomas decided to cross this region by bicycle, giving him great freedom of movement. This mode of transportation also brought its share of adventures.
Between snowstorms, strong winds, and equipment breakdowns, his resilience was put to the test. This film, blending scientific documentary and adventure, aims to encourage viewers to reflect on the impact of our lifestyle on wildlife. It highlights solutions to mitigate this impact as well as the crucial importance of protecting large predators. It also offers a full immersion into the magnificent region of Patagonia. Get ready to be transported into the heart of a wild adventure combining environmental protection, personal endurance and contemplation.
